Scale: Lionel, MTH and K-Line 'O'

Description adn History:
This layout is a for-fun combination of Lionel, MTH and K-Line O-scale equipment on three levels with Gargraves track and air-operated switches. The layout is 12' x 16' and is built in a dedicated train room (16' x 22'), with a mixture of Plasticville and craftsman type buildings. The top level is an oval that has one two-rail line to accommodate fine scale locomotives and rolling stock, and one three-rail line. The bottom level contains a circus and a subway passenger station. The main (mid) level includes the town scene, railyard, rodeo, trolley, and some animation. The back drop is a hand-painted mural courtesy of an artistic friend. Scenery is mostly complete except for a mine planned on the bottom level. I have kept to the time period of early ‘50's in a rural setting.

History: This layout was on the layout tour when the TTOS had their national convention in Las Vegas a few years ago. It was well received by those who visited. The TTOS organizers brought the folks out to the house in small busses (about 2 dozen folks at a time). The layout room is large enough to accommodate about a dozen folks at any one time. The organizers split the tour groups so one half were looking at the layout while the other half remained outside in the shade. We provided seating and refreshments for those people. If you judge the success of a layout presentation by the number of cameras taking pictures, flashes going off, and positive comments, then this layout was a success.
