SIG Events

Several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are represented at our convention:
RPM
  • RPM - RPM was originally formed as the Modern Prototype Modelers and was started at the Milwaukee NMRA Convention in 1985 by a handfull of dedicated modelers and manufactures. One of the founding members of the group, Joe DElia, Jr. of Proto Power West/A-line, renamed the group RPM to include all eras of prototype modeling. One of the main goals of RPM was to promote prototype modeling and share the passion for modeling the prototype as closely as possible. From these early beginings the RPM movement has sparked many excellent prototype modeling meets around the world. RPM has also had a profound effect on the hobby and the caliber of models being manufactured today. Modelers of all roads, scales and eras are invited to join us in 2010 at this our 25th Anniversary Reunion of RPM. Bring your models so all can enjoy and share in our display room right outside the Convention Registration and Company Store. RPM Days in San Diego are Thursday and Friday of the Convention. • Opsig
  • Operations - The principal purpose of the Operations Special Interest Group (OPSIG) is to discuss, develop and disseminate ways of operating model railroads to realistically emulate practices of the prototype. This includes sharing information on various methods of generating, moving and controlling traffic to heighten the feeling that our models are an active and integral part of the national rail transportation network, serving shippers and consignees throughout the nation. We also discuss and communicate information about the methods and procedures used by the real railroads and ways of most practically and realistically adapting them to the model world. So if you like to operate the railroad you've created, this is a place to learn more and find others with similar interests. At this convention we have lined up clinics presented by members of the OPS Sig, providing information and details on operations (prototype and model), how to plan and run operations sessions on your layout, and other clinics with an operations theme. There will also be a number of layouts hosting operations for a limited number of attendees (sign up prior to the convention is required). • LD Sig
  • Layout Design - The Layout Design Sig exists to further the art and science of model railroad track planning and model train layout design. There will be several clinics on layout design and planning, as well as others that are related to the topic. And there will be many SIG members in attendence who will be more than happy to discuss your questions on designing your layout. For more information on the LDSig, go to http://www.ldsig.org/
