Non-Rail Events, Clinics and Tours

 

We have listed all Non-Rail events here in chronological order so it will be easier to see what is going on at any given time.

All Non-Rail activities will be held in the San Clemente Room with the exception of the Wednesday Meet and Greet which will be held the Monarch Room 1. The San Clemente Room will also serve as the Non-Rail Lounge and will be open all day during the convention.

 

Wednesday, September 8

Meet and Greet With Bingo, Wednesday 4-5 PM, Monarch 2 room

Come and hear what is planned for the Convention!  There will be sodas and cookies, and Bingo prizes. Cost to play is $1 per board.

 

 

Thursday, September 9

Tour of the Nixon Library, Thursday 9.30 AM - around 3 PM

Our 2.5 hours docent led tour will feature items from Richard Nixon’s childhood to his internment on the property. These include items relating to Watergate and the missing tapes, and many of Pat Nixon’s dresses and accessories. The tour will include Nixon’s childhood home and the Presidential helicopter ( helicopter is non-ADA). Lunch is included and will be after the tour at:

We meet at the Non-Rail room to arrange carpooling at 9:30 am. Return time should be around 3 pm. Price $35.

 

 

Thursday, September 9

Extra Fare Clinic $5.00

Artificial  Flower Display, Thursday 6.30 PM - 7.30 PM

Clinician: Annette Palmer 
 
Make and take an Artificial flower display in a glass bowl. I will have roses with tea lights that can be used or you can make one without lights and different type of flowers.  
 
This clinic is $5.00  to attend and take home one display of your own making.
Light up flowers are one per person or if you want more they are $1 each additional flower and must be requested at time of sign up. No more than 3 roses per display as that is all that will fit.
 
You need to sign up before the clinic so I will have enough bowls for each person. 
If you want to make more than one please sign up for how many you would like to make.  (1 attendee 1 display,  if you want to make two then sign up for two attendees).
 
 
 
 
 

 

Friday, September 10

Sand Art clinic, Friday, September 10, 8-9 AM, San Clemente Room

Clinician: Annette Palmer


Come and join us to make your very own sand art. These make nice decorations or make wonderful gifts.
 
You will have a choice of different size and shapes of containers to make your own art. We will supply all of the items needed for you to take home your very own creation(s). 
 
We will have some small artificial flowers and plants if you want to make a terrarium like the one picture. Come and have some fun. This clinic is free to anyone who would like to join us.
 
 
 


 

 

Friday, September 10

Build a floating locket, necklace or earrings, Friday, September 10, 9:30 AM- 10:30 AM, San Clemente Room

Clinician: Annette Palmer

In this clinic you will be able to make your own floating locket or earrings or a regular necklace. I will provide all materials needed. There is no charge for this clinic. Just come and have some fun making something you would like to wear.

 

 

 

Tissue Art Canvas clinic, Saturday, September 11, 1-3 PM, San Clemente Room

Clinician: Roberta Fleishman


Come and let your creative juices go wild!  You can do abstract line art or
cut or crush tissue paper to make your own master piece!
 
 

 

 

Ongoing Events

There are several shopping opportunities not far from the hotel. South Coast Plaza has Nordstrom’s, Macy’s, and Lord & Taylor as anchor stores.  There are many upscale stores and restaurants available.  Old Town Orange maybe be familiar as it is a favorite location for movies and television shows.  There are many antique stores and small restaurants.  Tustin Old Town Historical Area is a smaller version of Old Town Orange. Bowers Museum in Santa Ana has permanent exhibitions showing Orange County history, Native American, Pacific Islander, and African objects.  You may have lunch at their restaurant on the premises.

 

Raffle

There will be special raffle prizes aimed at the Non-Rail participants. Sale of tickets will be open during the whole convention and the drawing will be held at the Awards Banquet on Saturday.
